Big Dot Media
Untitled-2

Allan Carruthers

Developer

Straight from a degree in sound design and programming, Allan was the second developer to arrive at Big Dot. After a shaky start calling the boss by the wrong name (repeatedly) and measuring the office kitchen for a new fridge using a paper ruler (the fridge didn’t fit…), Allan quickly found his place as one of our leading front end developers. Away from the office, he’ll either be behind a camera capturing awesome landscapes, shredding to the likes of Paul Gilbert or watching a band none of us have heard of at a venue we don’t know exists.

Why does he love Big Dot?
Fresh coffee on tap and wearing shorts to work.

Jimmy

James Mountford

Developer

After completing a degree in Computer Science and Mathematics, Jimmy became the first developer to join Big Dot Media. Since joining us he has built a reputation for his ability to solve problems and achieve anything asked of him, never missing a deadline to date.

Away from his desk, Jimmy enjoys fixing things, solving problems, playing Pool, and spending time with friends and family.

Why does he love Big Dot?
There is never a dull moment and every day presents a new challenge.

James Grant

Developer

Raised in the untamed wilds of southern England, James is an accomplised self taught developer. He coded his first site, complete with table based layout and animated gif frames, in the summer of ’98, but has since learnt the errors of those early days. Now he uses semantic, standards based HTML and CSS to front his modular and elegant PHP, and seeks to constantly refine his code to be all it can be.

On the rare occasion he steps away from his text editor, James splits his time between his friends, his kitchen and his garden – in that order.

Why does he love Big Dot?
Pizza Hut Friday’s and a well stocked fridge full of cider.

Stewart Dellow

Developer

Naturally being the fourth developer to join the ranks of Big Dot, Stewart was (and still is) relentlessly bullied. However, he is still enjoying life as a front end developer and master of flash. Along with re-homing an electronic Tarantula named Uncle Milton, and pioneering “Extreme Office Frisbee”, Stewart counts Tottenham Hotspurs, a multitude of Motor Racing and energy drinks amongst his personal interests, whilst mastering jQuery and discovering the ever-increasing depths of SEO as his professional interests.

Why does he love Big Dot?
The aforementioned office frisbee and free Bagels!

Facebook App Store – What do I need to know? - May 2012

Earlier this week, Aaron Brady from the Facebook Developer Team took great pleasure in announcing to the world Facebook’s latest venture – Facebook App Store. Sorry; Facebook App Center. Another company has already staked their claim on the term ‘App Store’, much to the annoyance of Mark Zuckerberg, no doubt. Without revealing too much about [...]

Why Facebook Like-Gates are dead - May 2012

Well, not exactly “dead”. They’re still massively used by brands on Facebook. The reason for this is simple – brands; just like the majority of people, see Facebook as a popularity contest. The more friends/likes you have, the more popular/successful you are: Enter Facebook Like-Gates. Using like-gates as a metric though, is becoming increasingly outdated. [...]

Brands Using Social Media Without Engagement – Isn’t That Just Traditional Advertising? - May 2012

Brands Using Social Media Without Engagement… The social media landscape evolves on almost a daily basis, but two things it seems are certain: Content is the King, and user engagement is its’ Queen. What happens though, when the Queen is ignored? Is it possible for brands using social media without engagement to still succeed? The [...]
